DocEar has many of the features that, from time to time, I try to figure out how to replicate within DTPO. Zotero (open source) has long been an excellent tool for managing not only pdfs but any “resource” that one might want to track while doing research. Docear relied on an external pdf viewer/annotator and it required one that was compatible to work.
